Blog and pictures

I decided to spend some time on editing the blog itself, and how it looks in general. Although this isnt extremely important I found it was something that could benefit my project overall. I also found my main model for the my magazine. He is a 45 year old male with grey facial hair which is perfect because that it roughly the age group I am targeting. The picture for the cover image will be shot at my fathers office, where he will be wearing appropriate attire for the magazine genre which will most likely be a sort of suit or tux. In regards to my double-page spread I am not exactly sure if I will be using the same model or if I will use a different person and a different attire, but I will definitely be taking the pictures in a different setting from the cover image.

Magazine website

Although I have not began to shoot, I began to play around with different magazine creation websites like joomag and canva. As I began to test different fonts and layouts I found that canva is actually a lot more simpler and user friendly. As I had already decided on a more sharp, clean font to represent masculinity and luxury for my cover title, I already knew what I was looking for. I came across a particular font which caught my attention immediately, the font is called "Oswald". This font is sharp and is clean. I was also debating between two layouts for my double-page spread, one included 3 text columns while the other was one column and two text boxes. I decided to wait until I finished shooting to finalize my decision for the double-page spread as the images will more than likely play a key roll in the double-page spread.

Feedback

Over the past few days I've been struggling a lot to come up with an idea for my double-page spread. I have looked at other magazines and tried to research but have not been conclusive with my decision for the double page spread. On Thursday in class there was a feedback session, where 4 other students and I sat down and gave each other suggestions and idea for our project. I brought up my struggle with my double-page spread, and the group I was working with began giving me ideas like a trending clothing, or a special new item of clothing, like a sports tux or a certain type of cloth used. Although I liked the idea of doing something trending, I feel like in terms of high end fashion, the trend remains the same for the majority of the part, which is why I think I will be doing the release of a unique item, although I tend to change my mind a lot.

Moving forward

For the work on my magazine I decided to use canva.com as my website for magazine production because I went through it and I seem to really understand the tools the website provides. As I began to look through through the fonts for the title of my magazine, I looked up multiple Men’s high-fashion magazines like Vogue, Numeró, and QC, and noticed that they’re all displayed in a large, but simple font, that’s most of the time very sharp. I decided that I would apply this to my magazine as I want everything in my magazine to satisfy my genre’s target audience.      Many of the more “serious” magazine examples that I was looking it at used a lot of different image filters like black and white, and other darker filters on the cover image. I decided that I should apply the same thing to my magazine, as I want it too look more mature and high-end. With this said I began to think about a magazine title but I have not been able to come up with anything. I want something short but serious, a m

Ready to shoot

I just got home and as soon as I opened my computer I was looking over some research that I didn't get to look at before and found a website  that talks about the consumer data, like age and gender, for a few magazines. I found this extremely interesting because many of the magazines on that website are within luxury/high-end fashion. For example Robb Reports magazine  has a more senior and masculine audience that consists of 80% males above 45 years old and the digital version has around 50% women at an average of 35 years old. Now that I have specific data to match specific magazines that are the same genre as mine, I can begin to construct the magazine cover.     Now with what I found, I can begin to shoot pictures for the cover of my magazine. I decided that i'm going to focus mainly on men's fashion therefor my cover page model will be male. I have a few models for my magazine that I have in mind, and i'd like to shoot all of them just in case I like one more tha

Big Switch

Image
As I began to move forward with the production of my magazine, I felt like I was about to put myself into an extremely difficult task because if I was going to do Latin American Music, it would be extremely difficult to make my magazine completely unique, especially the pictures as I was not going to be able to get any famous Latin American artists and that was the main focus of Latin American music magazines. Following this I quickly began researching into luxury/high-end fashion magazines. I found a quick interest in this and began my research. Here are some of the magazines that i'd like to base my magazine cover image on:       I found that many of these magazines do indeed use celebrities for the cover images of their magazines, but I decided that if I used the appropriate aged male, and the right outfit, I could pull of an excellent cover magazine which would focus on what really matters, the fashion item. With this said I will quickly work on catching up with my

Magazine Color/Pictures

As I was looking into other Latin American music magazines, while researching I found that Latin music magazines are usually very colorful, making it extremely eye catching and appealing to the eye. This benefits the magazine in more than one way; due to its colors it could attract someone who is more interested in another genre.  I took this into account and decided that I’m going to focus on finding a good group of colors that blend well together to catch the attention of the public.      While researching I also saw that it said that for this particular genre, popular artists were normally on the cover page to draw attention. I wasn’t exactly happy to hear this, as I wanted to incorporate unique pictures, taken by me. I thought about what I could do and I decided that I wanted to be the model for all of the different pictures within my magazine, while incorporating hair and dressing style of the artists, almost like an impersonation. I felt like this would be something extrem

Latin American Music Industry

For my magazine, I decided that I will be doing a Latin American music magazine. My magazine will focus on connecting the Latin American music industry with the rest of the world, and providing information on not only popular artists but as well as upcoming artists who are beginning to make a name for themselves. The magazine will overall focus Latin American music news. One thing that I plan to really focus on as I continue to work on my magazine is to stay away from making my magazine seem like a celebrity gossip magazine. My intention is to provide news, not gossip on the Latin American music industry and its artists. I feel like this is extremely important to staying focused on the specific genre of my magazine and not steering away into another.         As I began to research the Latin American music industry I learned that its mostly popular amongst teenagers and younger adults, and of course it is more popular amongst people of Hispanic origin, but, the genre of mu

Selecting the genre

Hi, I'm Lucas Alvarez and I guess you may say i'm a little nervous to begin this blog as I have never done one, but i'm look forward to going through the experience. As the day that we got to begin our project got closer and closer I began looking at what genre i'd like to use for my magazine. I began to look at what I know best, the sports world, Soccer and Basketball especially. As I looked at sports magazine samples, I felt like it would be extremely hard for me to come up with a strong title, and it would also be difficult to incorporate new things. When I took this into account I began to expand my options and looked into more genres.          As I passed by many different magazine samples I thought about doing either a life style magazine or a food magazine, but then I thought it would be too popular among my classmates, so I decided on a music magazine. Although I haven't exactly established specifics within the music genre, I feel like there is a l
