Almost done

After taking my pictures and beginning to put the pieces of the puzzle together, I am very proud of what my magazine is coming out to look like. I have still not finished writing my double page spread or my table of contents but I have the layout of the double page spread already set up as well as the images placed, based on how much I think I am going to write. I am having trouble deciding on how I should spread out the information for my double page spread, I was thinking into 4 or 5 different sub topics, rather than one whole piece of text on one large topic. For example, instead of doing tailored fashion in the summer and talking about how to dress overall, I was thinking it would be better to separate it into specific sub topics like jackets, undershirts, shoes, and accessories.

Magazine website

Although I have not began to shoot, I began to play around with different magazine creation websites like joomag and canva. As I began to test different fonts and layouts I found that canva is actually a lot more simpler and user friendly. As I had already decided on a more sharp, clean font to represent masculinity and luxury for my cover title, I already knew what I was looking for. I came across a particular font which caught my attention immediately, the font is called "Oswald". This font is sharp and is clean. I was also debating between two layouts for my double-page spread, one included 3 text columns while the other was one column and two text boxes. I decided to wait until I finished shooting to finalize my decision for the double-page spread as the images will more than likely play a key roll in the double-page spread.

Feedback session #2

Today in class we had the final feedback discussion  before the due date of the project. I gained reassurance from it because I felt like I was extremely behind but it turns out I just need to catch up on shooting my pictures. I was having trouble thinking of a background to use for my cover image, and where I wanted to take it. My group brought up some examples of other magazines and presented them to me, and I decided that my background should be plain, but with a glossy touch. Colors like white, grey, and black are all good colors to use, depending on the color of what the model will be wearing. I also asked more about the double page spread and what I should talk about. I stated my idea that I mentioned in a blog post and the group liked it but they also gave me the idea of doing the article on a certain season. For example, “How to dress for the summer” which is not a bad idea, but I feel like it wouldn’t apply to my genre, but I am going to keep it in consideration.

Moving forward

For the work on my magazine I decided to use canva.com as my website for magazine production because I went through it and I seem to really understand the tools the website provides. As I began to look through through the fonts for the title of my magazine, I looked up multiple Men’s high-fashion magazines like Vogue, Numeró, and QC, and noticed that they’re all displayed in a large, but simple font, that’s most of the time very sharp. I decided that I would apply this to my magazine as I want everything in my magazine to satisfy my genre’s target audience.      Many of the more “serious” magazine examples that I was looking it at used a lot of different image filters like black and white, and other darker filters on the cover image. I decided that I should apply the same thing to my magazine, as I want it too look more mature and high-end.
